Well, it isn't even Christmas dinner time and I've already gained 10 pounds (at least that is what it feels like). Could it be the dozen cookies (a slight exaggeration) I ate with my grandkids yesterday?
Maybe the chocolate covered cherries? Or how about the TWO big meals I had with the family yesterday? But, I couldn't hurt their feelings by not eating, right?
We make all kinds of excuses to do things we want to do, even though we know they are really not the wise thing to do. It is true in the Christian realm as well. We can make choices every day to do things that are good for us, like telling the truth, refusing to gossip, being kind to those who are unkind to us, forgiving when someone does us wrong . . . the list could go on and on.
We can also make excuses and react in the wrong way about these things "They don't deserve any kindness from me. I can take just so much. It really is the truth so why not tell it? It was only a little white lie. Some things I can forgive but not this one."
Making the wrong choices about food will only make you unhealthy (did you really think I would type fat?!!) Making wrong choices about spiritual things can affect both your spiritual health AND your physical health. Do you think we had better get rid of the excuses on both points?
Hoping I don't make any spiritual or physical excuses today, Gloria
