Picking And Choosing

Have you noticed how most of the magazines at the grocery store deliver mixed messages? I picked up one that showed a woman who had gone from a size 14 to a size 2. I wanted to know what that woman did! On the same cover was a beautiful picture of a a luscious cake. Mixed messages indeed!!!

I guess a magazine has to talk out of "both sides of their mouth" as they said it the south. A person who did that said one thing to one person and another thing to another person. They told each what they wanted to hear. Skinny people want to hear about luscious cake recipes. Plump people want to find out how to "un-plump." We pick and choose which one we want to incorporate into our lives.

Unlike a magazine, the Bible gives one clear message. Read this and get to know God better. Read this and apply it to your life.

Christians can sometimes read the Bible like they read a magazine. They pick and choose what they want to incorporate into their lives and leave the rest for others. It just doesn't work that way. Unlike magazines, the Bible is to be followed in totality. If it says, "Love your enemies," we don't leave that for someone else to pick out and apply to their lives. It's for all of us.

If it says, "If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, but do not have love, I have become a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal" then we all need to check if we are truly loving others as we should.

Yes, unlike the magazines, the WHOLE Bible is to be applied to each and every one of our lives. If we do, we'll learn to know God better and will live the victorious life he promised.

Hoping I don't "pick and choose" but apply all God's Word to my life, Gloria
