I hate snakes. I REALLY hates snakes. Live ones, dead ones, makes no difference to me.
My grandchildren love to watch those nature shows when they're here. Almost always they show a snake slithering through the brush waiting to attack some poor creature of the woods or even some human who dares to cross their path.
If I did not love my grandchildren so, I would not allow those shows in my home. I know. It's only a picture you say. Maybe so, but I've been known to break out in a sweat or have goose bumps the size of golf balls appear on my arms (well, maybe not that big) when they come on the screen. Now, with High Definition television, it's even worse!
Just the talk of snakes makes the hair on my body, not just my arms, stand at attention. The hair on my head stands so high I look a good two inches taller! I'm getting a little queasy just writing this.
I have found something good about snakes. Someone shared it in a book. He said some people are like the rattlesnake. He warns you he's about to attack you when he rattles his tail. The cotton mouth moccasin is not like that. He strikes you without warning.
I compare the devil to a cotton mouth. He attacks when you least expect it. As you're walking along in your life, suddenly he appears out of nowhere, latching onto your flesh and causing great pain.
You can't really prepare for the attack of a cotton mouth snake but you can prepare for the attack of the devil. Immerse your life in all things godly. Become a true disciple of Christ. Get to know him and follow him. As you do, that old snake, the devil, will still attack but he will find you have covered your life with an impenetrable shield and all he does is crack a few teeth!
Thankful God can protect me from the devil, Gloria
