Resizing

I noticed a new "button" on my computer this morning. Next to a little spyglass symbol are the words, Resize. That's exactly what I want to do! I want to resize from a _____ to a size ten.

You don't really think I would give you my size, do you? My husband doesn't even know that. If I have anything to do with it, he'll never know UNLESS I get to that size ten. Then he and everybody I can find who will listen will know about it!

Wouldn't it be great if we could just push a button and resize our bodies? Alas, life is just not that way. Resizing takes effort. Consistent effort. Sometimes grueling effort. However, if we're willing to commit ourselves to it, we can actually change, resize our bodies.

Something else takes effort. Always consistent effort. Sometimes grueling effort. It's living the Christian life.

The Bible speaks of us running a race, fighting a fight, being in a battle. All those things take great stamina and determination. A person has to train for them. Imagine a soldier who doesn't know how to use a weapon or a runner who hasn't prepared him/her self for the race, a boxer who hasn't worked out regularly.

The Bible also uses words like resist, fight, press on. All these words indicate living the Christian life is no Sunday picnic!

I'll not be able to push a button and become the spiritually mature Christian God desires. While I cannot do it on my own (the Holy Spirit gives me the power to do it) , it will take effort on my part. I have to do the resisting. I have to do the fighting. I have to do the pressing on. And, if I do, I will win the battle, I will win the race, I will win the fight. I will reshape my spiritual life!

Why would I make such an effort? Paul says it best: "I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Phil. 3:14

Pressing on, fighting, resisting, Gloria
