Lots of things change as we women grow older. We get beards. We get bad knees. We get bad hips. As our downward spiral continues, we can't hear. We can't see. We can't smell.
I have known older women who have gotten to the can't smell stage. As a result, they put on enough perfume or cologne so you can smell them for two blocks! Although I'm still okay with the smelling (for now), I have taken a lesson from that and do only one spritz of my perfume.
You've got to take whatever measures you can to prepare for this "stage" in your life. Since I'm getting closer, I'm trying to prepare myself.
I'm buying up Target's eye glasses in various strengths. Next I'll be purchasing a magnifying glass.
I don't know about the beard thing. If people start saying, "Hey, mister," I may have to purchase a man's shaver.
I think I'll load up on those nose sprays that are supposed to open up your sinuses. Maybe they will help my smelling.
Did I mention getting older takes money. Lots of money. I need to start saving now for future hearing aides, hip and knee replacements and medicine I'll need to sustain this old age lifestyle.
Old age can be depressing . . . or not. It all depends on your attitude. We don't have to allow things get to us down. We choose to. I know many older people that have many infirmities and yet they have such sweet spirits and live life to the fullest.
We have a choice to consider each day as a gift from God or as a burden to bear. I admit, some days it is not easy to rejoice. Yet, it is in the difficult times that we probably need to rejoice the most. Rejoicing takes our minds off our troubles, our aches, our frustrations.
So, no matter what your age or your condition, rejoice today!
"Rejoice in the Lord always; and again I say, rejoice!" Phil 4:4

So, what is the alternative to "old age"? Must be death. I'll take "old age" anytime! (I think)
I like the lyrics on a tv commercial..."when I grow up I want to be an old woman"
Gayle,
Yes, getting to be old means I'll be able to see my grandchildren, maybe even my grandchildren grow up. That will be worth all the aches, pains AND wrinkles!
Gloria
That should be grand children and great grand children. Must be the old age setting in!!
