Choosing Not To Worry

Are you a worrier? I know someone who worries when she doesn't have something to worry about!

There are lots of things in our lives that lend themselves to worry. I sometimes find myself allowing worry about some future event to fill my mind. It's not like I can do anything about it so why should I worry?

When I worry, I know I am questioning God's care and control in my life. I guess the reason I worry is that I'm not sure God is going to work things out like I hope he will!

Just yesterday I had to make a choice to worry about an upcoming event or leave it in God's hands. I overcame the worry by refusing to think about it.

You may think that is kind of like the "bury your head in the sand" principle. Not really. If I could do something about the issue, that would be a different story. Since I know I can't, I just refuse to think about it! Every time it comes into my head I just say to myself, "No. I'm not going to think about that." It works!

Is there something in your life that would make you want to worry? Just refuse to think about it! Push the thoughts out and think on something else. Doing this is a scriptural truth. Jesus said,

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

So, when thoughts or concerns crowd our minds and we begin to "stew" over them, let's just opt to think about other things. Saying the scripture verse above will also be helpful!

Choosing not to worry, Gloria
