Prayer is such a privilege. Do you find it awesome that God, creator of the universe, is willing to not only listen when we pray but respond to our requests? I find it amazing!
What is prayer to you? Is it like going to your daddy and asking him for everything you want and expecting him to dish it out simply because you requested it? Kind of like the girl in the movie, "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" (the original) who says, and I paraphrase, "Daddy, I want it and I want it now!"
While God invites us to ask to receive, I feel the primary reason for prayer is worship and adoration of God and letting HIM speak to US. Sometimes I wonder if God's ears hurt from being bombarded with our constant chatter. :D
We never give God a chance to talk. I wonder if he sometimes tries to tell us, "Hey, if you'll just stop talking a second, I'll talk to you." Of course, we're so busy laying out all our requests that we don't hear him!
As you spend time in prayer today, tell God, "God I'm going to be quiet. I'm not going to bombard you with requests. I'm just going to listen for you to speak to me so I can get to know you better." It may seem awkward at first but you could find you learn to love it because you are developing a better relationship with God. That's what prayer has the power to do!
Hoping I do more listening than talking, Gloria
