There is a southern saying...I call it a southern saying because I'm from the south and that's where I heard it. It says, "Another day. Another dollar in the hole."
Kind of depressing philosophy. However, in these days, there are many who may feel this to be true. Times are hard. High fuel and food prices make it more difficult for many families to make it.
The thought of not being able to provide for your family can be a fearful thing. These kinds of fears are new to many Americans. Our lives have been cushioned far more than other peoples of the world.
As a Christian, what is my responsibility to those who have needs? Do I just say, "They made their bed. Let them lie in it (Another southern saying).
The Christian is to allow Christ to live his life out through them. How do you think Jesus would react to people who need food, clothing, and shelter? Do you think he would be heard to say the above statement? I don't think so.
Times are hard. What can we do to alleviate the hurts of others? Will we just stand by and do nothing?
Ask God to show you how you can demonstrate his love to those who are less fortunate than you. If you do, the people you help will be blessed, you will be blessed and Jesus will glorified.
Asking God to show me how I can help alleviate suffering, Gloria
