"Another day, another dollar in the hole."
"We're goin' down the tube."
I can remember the sayings from childhood. Just reading these sayings is somewhat depressing.
I can remember being amazed that people in other countries were paying seven or eight dollars for fuel to put in their automobiles. I never dreamed here in America we would be inching our way toward those same prices.
Food prices have skyrocketed. Who would have thought we would see a pound of cherries cost 6.99 or more?
Our founding fathers would be shocked if they lived in this day. How far we have come from the principles and values upon which they founded this country!
Yes, the old adages surely seems applicable today.
Life can sometimes be frightening. What lies ahead? Where is this all going to end? What's going to happen to me, my children, my grandchildren?
There is another saying, actually a truth. It has been around since even before I was a child (talk about antiquity!). It is a truth far more valid than the ones I wrote above. This came from the Word of God. It is,
"Have I not commanded you, Be strong and courageous.
Don't be afraid. Neither be dismayed.
For the Lord, thy God, is with you wherever you go."
Joshua 1:9
Times may seem perilous but we don't have to fear. God is with us. He has it all under control. We just have to trust him and believe he knows what he is doing, even if we don't.
Trusting, even in the hard times, Gloria
