God's Word

I wonder how John the Baptist would be received in our day. He wore clothes made of camel's hair (quite scratchy, I would think) and a leather belt around his waist. The thing that gets me most is he ate locusts and wild honey. Now, the honey I can live with but the locusts stuff sounds pretty disgusting.

I know some scholars have tried to say the Bible didn't really mean locusts. It's kind of like the scholars saying Jesus didn't really mean it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven (you must read the text to discern what Jesus is saying) but that he was talking about a hole in Jerusalem's city gate that allowed camels to crawl on their knees and get into the city.

Why do we have to always question the Word of God?

For some it is because they want to destroy the faith of others.
For some it is because they don't want to believe there is a God.
For some it is because they don't want to have to live by God's Word.

Through the ages God has seen that his holy Word has not been destroyed. Many have tried. People have burned it, made it illegal to read it, and killed those who possessed it. They are doing the same today. Still, the Word lives on. No matter how much evil men try to destroy the living Word of God, they will not be successful. Praise God!

Treasure God's Word. Better yet, read it!

Reading the treasure God has left for us, Gloria

Yes, the locusts thing really sounds...um...crunchy! And hey, I'm reading God's treasure, too! Isn't it great?

Nancy,
I think of all the Christians over the world who, because of lack of Bibles, tear pages out, memorize them, and then pass them along to other believers. It makes me so sad that we are nonchalant about this wonderful possession we have.
