The Destination

I am beginning a study of the book of Matthew for my Bible study time. I just read about Herod having all the boy babies in Bethlehem two years and younger killed. Because the Magi had come to him seeking the new king of the Jews, Herod feared the takeover his kingdom.

This isn't the first time Herod went on a killing spree. He had one of his wives killed and several of his own children. Talk about a dysfunctional family!

Herod thought he had taken care of his problem. Surely the baby was dead now and he was secure in his kingdom. What Herod did not consider was that God is in control, even when it looks like he is not.

In a dream God had revealed to Joseph that he should take Jesus into Egypt. He stayed there until Herod was dead. Herod's plan thwarted, God's plan secured.

Sometimes you may think God has forgotten you, that things can't get any worse. Don't become discouraged. God knows what he is doing, even if you don't!

Joseph had to trust God. Do you ever think he might have said in times of frustration and fear, "Boy, why did I ever listen to God. All it got me was problems." I don't know if that is true. I do know he obeyed God's leading, even in the middle of difficulty. God had planned the little "side trip" into Egypt before time began.

Do you know God also mapped out a plan for your life before time began? No one had the power to thwart God's plan for his Son and no one has the power to thwart the plan God has for your life.

Be encouraged by this Bible story when things seem difficult. Rejoice that God may allow "side trips" but he WILL get you to the destination he has chosen for you!

Rejoicing that I'm going to reach the destination God ordained for me, Gloria
