The Bank Drive-Thru Incident

Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. Yesterday was one of those days for me.

I was going to have lunch with a friend. We were to meet at 11:30. Then I remembered it was the National Day of Prayer. I wanted to attend so I phoned and asked her if we could meet at city hall and then go to lunch. She agreed to meet me there.

Well, because of a mishap I did not get to city hall. She sat waiting. I phoned her and told her I wasn't able to get there. She agreed to wait until I could meet her. She had already been waiting for an hour. Such patience!

Are you still with me? Not too bored yet? Well, I hope the rest of my post will give you a chuckle.

Since I had already made my friend wait over an hour, I was rushing to meet her. The bank was not too far from the restaurant and I had no cash. I stopped by the bank drive-thru to deposit a check and get some money. I grabbed the plastic container that sends your money to the bank teller (sorry, I have no idea what to call the thing) and reached in my purse for the check. No check.

I frantically look in every section of my purse and then in the truck. Still, no check. My friend is still waiting. I am getting more stressed by the minute. Where is that check!

Finally, I give up. I pull out of the drive-thru and head for the restaurant. I would just have to use my credit card.

Do you already know what I am going to say?

Just as I am about to make a U-turn to get to the restaurant, I look down on the seat. There sits the bank's plastic thingamajig. I forgot to put it back!

Once again I call my friend and tell her I have to go back to the bank and return the stolen property! I pull up in the drive-thru hoping no one will notice me. I am the only one there. The very young man who is the teller calls out, "May I help you?" I have NEVER had a teller do that before. Normally I do my deposit and THEN they talk to me. He must have been new and wanted to make a good impression on the customers. Personally, I wish he had not been so anxious to please. Now I had to explain why I was there. I stammer through an explanation.

I put the thing back in its place. Since I was at the far drive-thru, I hope the young man didn't see me clearly. I don't want him recognizing me and snickering the next time I come in to make a deposit. Of course, I imagine he went and told everybody about the strange lady who took off with the deposit thing.

I finally arrived at the restaurant. My friend told me that, as she started to leave home, she decided to bring a book, didn't know why just threw it in her car. I think she read most of it while she was waiting! I told her if she had gone to lunch with any other friend she would simply have gone to lunch and it would have been forgotten in a few days. This one she will remember!

I am thankful for a friend who loves me and accepts me as I am.

I am thankful for a God who does the same!

Still looking for that check, Gloria

Thanks, Marge. Glad to know I was not alone. You know the old adage, "Misery loves company! :D

I hope we have a better day today, too. I'm staying away from the bank, just in case!
