Spiritual DNA

They say, "You are what you eat." I hope that isn't true. If it is, you might notice me looking like a chili dog.

I LOVE chili dogs. When I was younger, I always looked forward to the fair each year so I could indulge in "carnie" food. My husband was always amazed that I could eat all that junk and not get sick. He called me "old iron gut."

Years have passed and I don't think the old gut is made of iron anymore, more like tin. Chili dogs just don't set well anymore. Still, every now and then I indulge in one. I have actually found that they don't taste as good as they once did.

I have a friend who eats almost nothing that has fat in it, no cheese, no fries, no fatty meats. In fact she says the sight of all that fat actually makes her queasy. Why? Because she has changed her pattern of eating.

I have found that, as a Christian, my pattern of living has changed. Things I may have wanted to do before just don't appeal to me now. I have a new nature. God lives inside me. He now is my life. When I allow him to live his life out through me, I don't have the desire to do things that are contrary to his nature. In fact, they may make me a little queasy. Unlike forcing myself not to eat chili dogs, I don't have to force myself to do what is right. It's part of my spiritual DNA now.

Have you thanked God today for living his life out through you?

Glad my spiritual DNA has been changed, Gloria
